HEALTH Good dog

In an amazing tale of true dog loyalty, a clever canine helped save his owner from severe hypothermia after the farmer came off his quad bike in the Australian outback.

The ABC is reporting that this act of loyalty happened when a 56-year-old man rolled his bike at Bondoola, near Rockhampton, QLD yesterday evening and was unable to get help.

Pinned under the heavy quad bike overnight, the temperature significantly dropped which led the man to slip into a state of hypothermia, however, the situation could have been much worse if his dog had not stayed with him, keeping him from sliding into a critical state by keeping him warm.

The man's neighbour found the stricken scene whilst out riding her horse the next morning. She performed CPR and called emergency services.

A rescue helicopter soon came to take the man to hospital. Speaking to the ABC, Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service crewman Garth Snaidero said: "His trusty cattle dog stayed with him all night and kept him warm. Man's best friend comes through again"

The man was airlifted to Rockhampton Hospital with head and chest injuries and is currently in a serious condition.

Reports believe the dog in question to be a Smithfield cross and was in good spirits after the ordeal.

What a good dog.
