CELEBRITY Royals

The Markle effect, if you don't already know, is a phenomenon that arose with the royal rise of the ever-stylish Duchess of Sussex. Everything she touches, or rather every piece of fabric she dons, becomes an instant classic.

Her recent oversized blazer is no exception. During Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's tour of Australia, Fiji, Tonga, and New Zealand, the soon-to-be-parents stopped by Dubbo College Senior Campus in Australia to say hello to some students.

While everyone was focused on trying to see her baby bump, few noticed that the Duchess was wearing a blazer designed by her friend, Serena Williams.

The world-renowned tennis pro noticed, of course, and posted two pictures on Instagram captioned, "The face you make when you and Meghan have matching @serena blazers #BeSeenBeHeard."

Naturally, the blazer immediately sold out on Williams’ site, where it goes for US$145.

Royals reportedly aren't allowed to accept handouts from designers, meaning that Markle used part of the royal budget designated to the Duke and Duchess towards supporting American fashion.

In addition to supporting her longtime friend, Markle also used that same outfit to make a political statement,  ET Online reports. The Duchess apparently wore black jeans from Outland Denim, a company who works to help sex trafficking victims in Cambodia.
