Our culture surrounding celebrities is strange as it is—people actually make money by essentially stalking them to snap photos without their permission—but fans will go to extraordinary lengths to get close to their favourite stars.
And they'll fork over a lot of money for it, too.
It all started when Scarlett Johansson was feeling a little under the weather during her appearance on 'The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.' According to Page Six, the star blew her nose on-air, which was apparently a very enticing thing for some people.
Johansson kept the snotty tissue and decided to put it up for auction on eBay. And, surprise surprise, someone actually bought it. Not only was it sold, but several people actually bid over each other, hiking the price up to a cool US$5,300.
What they are planning to do with the star's germs is a mystery—perhaps they'll clone her and make sure the new ScarJo isn't involved in any controversial castings?—but the philanthropic actress decided to give the money to charity.
This isn't the first time completely useless and bizarre celebrity "products" have been put on the market. Once upon a time, many Kanye West fans took to eBay to sell bags of air from his Yeezus concerts, and one bag was even reportedly selling for US$600,000.
